When it comes to its online offerings and shows, Netflix has done quite well for itself. From Blue Eye Samurai to Castlevania: Nocturne, animation fans have a lot to love on the streaming platform.

There’s also an expansion of the type of animation being produced under Netflix, with stop-motion animated shows like Pokemon Concierge and Wendell & Wild coming to mind, and computer-generated ones like the upcoming show Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance.

Recently unveiled with a debut trailer, Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is a new CGI animated series depicting a whole new look for anime’s most iconic giant fighting robots. While the series has used CGI visuals for their robots, this will be the first show to be completely computer-animated.

Requiem for Vengeance will take place on the European front during the One Year War, a conflict also depicted in the first Gundam series Mobile Suit Gundam. In a way, this new show will act as a prequel to the original 1979 anime.

For the uninitiated, the original series was a landmark show in anime history, as it offered a realistic portrayal of war, set in a future where mankind has ventured into space and battle with giant robots known as Mobile Suits.

Following in the steps of its predecessors, Requiem for Vengeance will feature themes of conflict and love that are seen in previous Gundam titles. There will also be a true-to-life and very human drama depicted through the clash of pilots who operate these giant robots.

As seen with this new trailer, Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance looks straight out of a next-generation video game, showing a realistic take on Gundam compared to its more futuristic, space opera counterparts.

On first look, one may mistakenly assume that Mobile Suit Gundam: Requiem for Vengeance is a live-action show, especially with Netflix’s recent output of the live-action One Piece and Yu Yu Hakusho shows.

Either way, this looks to be a great way for newcomers to get into the world of Gundam and experience a new kind of story.

The release date of Requiem for Vengeance has not been released yet, but in the meantime, newbies can also try out Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury on Netflix to see if this is the series for them.
