Adlyn Sofea Launches New Must-Have Art Merchandise with Tsutaya Books

As Malaysia’s creative scene continues to flourish with fresh, bold talents carving their own space, Adlyn Sofea is steadily establishing herself as an artist deeply connected to culture, identity, and community.

Known for her vivid colours, cultural references, bold characters, and expressions of femininity, Adlyn’s work strikes a beautiful balance between nostalgia and modernity, making it especially relatable for younger audiences and art enthusiasts.

Her journey so far has seen her exhibit at notable venues like Rumah Tangsi and GMBB, while collaborating with beloved local brands such as Strangerous, H.E. Butter, and Serationery. In 2022, she took home the HONOR Talents Design Award (Malaysia) for her intricate piece ‘Banded Tussock Moth with Wayang Kulit’, further cementing her reputation as one to watch.

But Adlyn Sofea isn’t an artist confined to galleries. Her bold, expressive art has made its way onto packaging, textiles, and digital platforms—seamlessly weaving into the fabric of everyday culture. Now, the 26-year-old creative is venturing into a new realm with the launch of ‘Wanita Venus Universe’.

Unveiled earlier this month, ‘Wanita Venus Universe’ is a curated lifestyle collection now available at Tsutaya Books Bukit Jalil. From statement art posters to uniquely designed affirmation cards, the collection carries Adlyn’s unmistakable artistic signature—bright, heartfelt, and rooted in meaning.

JUICE recently had the opportunity to sit down with the artist and ask her about this new project. Here’s how our conversation went:

Hi Adlyn, welcome to JUICE! Can you tell us the inspirations behind your latest merch at the Wanita Universe pop-up booth?

‘Wanita Venus Universe’ was inspired by my own need for strong affirmations. I realised that so many people, including myself, are just trying to hold on and remind themselves why they need to keep going. Through this collection, I wanted to explore the idea of connecting with our divine feminine energy and, hopefully, reach others who might need that same little boost.

Each character in my illustrations reflects the core affirmations I tell myself. They’ve inspired me to keep moving forward, like reminders along my journey. For example, the Goddess of Resilience encourages me to stay strong through tough times, while the Goddess of Peace reminds me to nurture inner calm. It’s all about creating small but meaningful sources of support we can carry with us.

Why did you decide to make those particular merchandise items?

I want my artwork to have a positive impact on others by motivating them. I love it when people can relate to what I do, but it means even more to me when I can help them recognise how vital any assistance is. Because I feel that everyone only needs a little ‘push’ or inspiration to get started or stay on track. I couldn’t have launched Wanita Venus Universe without the incredible support of my family and friends.

I’ve also wanted to create wearable art for quite some time. My final-year degree project was about creating an illustration brand for retail and wearable art. It is my goal to see my artwork on fabrics such as curtains, bedsheets, and, of course, scarves! I’d like to pursue prospects in textile illustration, and I think this is a modest step in that direction.

We’re most interested in the affirmation cards. Can you tell us how they work?

The affirmation card serves as an encouraging reminder or a small trinket you take with you to help motivate your goals! You can carry it in your backpack or show it on your table, whichever way you like. They are available in five illustrated characters representing essential affirmations: the Goddesses of Resilience, Love, Justice, Grace, and Peace. You may choose any of the Goddess characters based on their affirmation core or aesthetic preferences.

Each affirmation card includes a QR code pamphlet that you can scan to play TikTok filters as well. The “What Does Your Goddess Say?” message randomiser filter from each goddess’ profile provides daily affirmations. So, if you need a little motivation or inspiration, pop over to my TikTok account and play!

What about your artistic style? How would you describe it?

All of my characters have thick lashes, and I occasionally add extra sparkle or layers to their eyes for added charm. Drawing eyeballs has been a component of my art since high school. I’ve seen and drawn many different types of eyes, and I was finally inspired to draw them this way. I was also inspired by anime and cartoon shows around the same time. The eye is a distinctive element because I enjoy the look when someone is eager, and their eyes glitter with passion. The human eye has always been my inspiration.

I also enjoy stylising my characters. My art style is characterised by bright colours and the use of accessories. I enjoy having my art seem fashionable, and I was strongly influenced by childhood programs like Steven Universe, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Cardcaptor Sakura, and Soul Eater. Mostly, I prefer it when my characters have a personality and aesthetic that reflect who they are. I enjoy creating personalities that have a deeper meaning for myself and others.

Can people still get your merchandise after the pop-up booth ends?

Absolutely! People can always contact me on Instagram to purchase or commission art. I’m also open to participating in future pop-up booths or partnering with talented individuals who want to work together. I’ll keep my social media accounts informed on upcoming events and new releases!

Adlyn Sofea’s ‘Wanita Venus Universe’ is more than just a merch drop; it’s a celebration of self-affirmation, culture, and creative identity.
