A Buffalo That Looks Like Trump Just Escaped Sacrifice Because of the Internet

Somewhere in Bangladesh, a buffalo accidentally became more famous than most influencers.

Not because it could dance, host a podcast, or shill crypto. Because it looked uncannily like Donald Trump.

A rare albino buffalo with a fluffy blond forelock, pale skin, and an expression that permanently looks like it’s about to announce new tariffs, recently became an internet sensation after videos of it exploded across social media. Locals nicknamed it “Donald Trump,” and suddenly a farm animal from Narayanganj found itself starring in the world’s favourite genre: extremely specific celebrity lookalikes.

The timing made the story stranger.

The nearly 700kg buffalo had already been sold ahead of Eid al-Adha, the Islamic festival where livestock are traditionally sacrificed as part of qurbani. In Bangladesh alone, millions of animals are sacrificed annually during the celebration, making the buffalo’s fate seem pretty much sealed.

Then the internet did what the internet does…

Photos spread. Videos spread faster. Crowds started showing up just to see the blond buffalo in person. People took selfies. News outlets picked it up. Ballooning from local curiosity into international headline material almost overnight, the Commander-in-Beef even got its own Wikipedia page.

And somehow, against all odds, virality became a life-saving technology.

As public interest grew, Bangladeshi authorities intervened before the sacrifice could take place. Officials cited security concerns due to the massive attention surrounding the animal, arranged compensation for the buyer, and relocated the buffalo to the national zoo in Dhaka instead.

One moment it was livestock. The next it had state protection.

The buffalo’s owner, Ziauddin Mridha, described it as unusually calm and gentle. The nickname reportedly came from his younger brother, who thought the animal’s blond fringe looked suspiciously presidential. The joke escaped the group chat and entered global consciousness.

There’s something beautifully absurd about the whole thing

Every day, social media feeds us outrage, doomscroll sludge, AI-generated nonsense, and people arguing over things they’ll forget by next Tuesday. Then out of nowhere arrives a blond buffalo from Bangladesh that looks like the US president and accidentally causes an international rescue mission.

It’s internet culture distilled into its purest form.

A creature becomes a meme. The meme becomes news. The news changes reality.

And now somewhere in Dhaka, a buffalo is alive because people collectively looked at it and said: “Yeah. That’s Trump.”

Only online could a haircut become a survival strategy.
