For as long as anyone’s been alive, opening a Chupa Chups lollipop has always been a minor (sometimes major) inconvenience. No matter how much you twist or tug at the seam, the damned lollipop wrapper just won’t open.

It’s something that Chupa Chups is well aware of… and they’ve decided to double down on it with the ‘Impossible’ lollipop, something they call the “final boss” of Chupa Chups.

An absurd product to mark the end of an era

Made in collaboration with ad agency BBH London, the Chupa Chups Impossible is available in a limited run of just 250 pieces. It takes everything people have complained about Chupa Chups lollipops and dials it up to an absurd level of difficulty.

Each lollipop is encased in materials more commonly found in industrial and military settings, including things like carbon fibre for structure, aramid fibre for reinforcement (also used in bulletproof vests), a coat of silicone carbide, and a dip in liquid rubber to seal it all in.

The result isn’t just something that’s difficult to open, it’s a lollipop that’s flame-proof, blade-proof, and practically indestructible.

But beneath all this humour is a genuine shift that’s been in the making for many years now. The Impossible lollipop is essentially Chupa Chups’ way of bidding farewell to their old ways, having reworked its packaging to produce a new wrapper designed to be easy to open.

According to parent company Perfetti Van Melle, the redesign required careful testing to strike a balance between ease of use, product freshness, and of course, food safety. It’s a clever bit of self-awareness, acknowledging years of frustration while signalling coming change.

The new, easier-to-open Chupa Chups wrapper has already started to appear in key markets, and it’s expected to be available everywhere by the end of 2026.
