‘F1 The Movie’ Gears Up for 12.12 Apple TV Streaming Debut

Christmas has come early for F1 fans. After months of waiting (and re-watching trailers or snippets of the film), F1 The Movie finally roars onto Apple TV on 12 December 2025.

It’s the perfect homecoming for a film that carved its own niche in 2025’s list of highest grossing titles, and a personal best for Apple Studios.

The most hype a sports film has ever received

You can probably remember the buzz surrounding the film when it first hit cinemas back in June earlier this year. And the film didn’t just open big, it debuted as the #1 movie worldwide, hauling in US$146 million (~RM601.6 million) globally on its opening weekend, and US$630 million (~RM2.5 billion) overall.

The movie has also made history by becoming the highest-grossing sports film of all time, being Brad Pitt’s biggest feature to date.

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, who also directed the global hit that was Top Gun: Maverick, the film tells the story of Sonny Hayes (Brad Pitt), once the brightest star of Formula 1 in the ’90s until a brutal crash forced him off the grid.

Decades later, he’s drifting through life as a racer-for-hire until his old F1 teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), now running his own F1 team on life support, begs him to return for one last shot at glory.

But standing across the garage is Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), a young up-and-coming driver who wants to make a name for himself, even if it means pushing his teammate aside.

F1 The Movie showcases a classic redemption arc, but its authenticity to the sport is what elevates it, especially if you’re already familiar with F1.

The best aspect of the film is the fact that it isn’t some green-screen fantasy. It was actually shot during active F1 Grand Prix weekends, with the cast and crew embedded in the paddock. The result is perhaps the most true-to-life racing feature ever filmed.

Other than the cinematics of it all, F1 The Movie has also made waves in the music industry, featuring an original score by Hans Zimmer, as well as other tracks that you can listen to in F1 The Album, which already has more than 2 billion streams and three 2026 GRAMMY nominations.

Tracks like ‘Just Keep Watching’ by Tate McRae, ‘Drive’ by Ed Sheeran, and ‘Lose My Mind’ by Don Toliver and Doja Cat have basically become the unofficial soundtrack to the 2025 F1 season, which only just recently closed.

Whether you’re reliving the cinema experience or diving in for the first time, F1 The Movie is one to look forward to in the run-up to Christmas, even if you’re not already a fan of F1.
