Malaysian studio Metronomik emerged as the big winner at this year’s SEA Game Awards, held on 7 October in conjunction with Level Up KL.
No Straight Roads 2, the studio’s highly anticipated sequel to its 2020 rhythm-tapping classic, electrified the night by taking home four trophies, including the coveted Audience Choice Award—voted by fans across the region.
The rhythm-infused action game also bagged Best Visual Arts, Best Audio Design, and Best Score & Music, reaffirming Metronomik’s reputation as one of Malaysia’s most innovative creative forces in gaming.

The annual awards celebrate the best of Southeast Asia’s indie game scene across 11 categories, shining a spotlight on the region’s growing creative talent.
Indonesian developers had a strong showing as well, with Troublemaker 2: Beyond Dream by Gamecom Team winning the prestigious Grand Jury Award—the evening’s top honour. Grim Trials from Indonesia was also recognised for Best Game Design, while Teller’s Duty took home Best Storytelling for its compelling narrative.

Malaysia, meanwhile, continued to make its mark beyond Metronomik’s wins. Local title Weyrdlets claimed Best Technology for its creative use of advanced game systems, and FiresOut! from Asia Pacific University won Best Student Game, proving the country’s next generation of developers are just as promising.
The No Straight Roads series follows Mayday and Zuke, two indie rock musicians who challenge an authoritarian EDM empire ruling their city through music. The first game, released in 2020, stood out for its mix of action, rhythm-based combat, and distinctive art direction. Its sequel, No Straight Roads 2, builds on those foundations with expanded gameplay, new musical styles, and a deeper exploration of its characters and world.
