An event held in Muar which saw several influential speakers such as Amanah president Mohamad Sabu and Johor DAP chairman Liew Chin Tong speaking to an audience by turn was suddenly disrupted as Syed Saddiq, the final speaker, began to address the crowd.

It was reported that a group of youngsters were revving their motorbikes loudly and shouting “penipu” (liar) at the former youth and sports minister during his speech. The crowd, in response, allegedly shouted back at the gang, asking them to go home.

The group’s continued approach was seen to be impeded by the police.

Syed Saddiq voiced his displeasure with the gang, who also interrupted his speech by revving their bikes’ throttles.

“They use this strategy when they are unable to counteract us with stronger arguments,” he remarked.

“If they assume they can stop us with their bikes, they are mistaken. We will fight back via debate if they attempt to intimidate us,” he said, adding that this is the true spirit of Muar children.

Similar disorder has occurred before for Syed Saddiq. He had to scale a back garden fence in October 2020 to get away from scores of young folks who barged into a gathering in Ulu Tiram, Johor.

At the time, the politician claimed that at least 200 people had gatecrashed the event, acting “like gangsters”, using cuss words urging him to apologise to the Johor Crown Prince, though Syed Saddiq said that he didn’t know what the issue was actually about.
