Zul Ariffin Pleads Guilty To Uploading Inappropriate Content On Social Media, Fined RM30,000
Famed Malaysian actor, Zul Ariffin was fined RM30,000 after pleading guilty in the Sessions Court in Sepang today, to the charge of uploading content of a discordant nature on social media last March.
Zul Ariffin made the confession after the charges were read against him before Judge Noorhisham Mohd Jaafar. These charges were filed in accordance with Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.
The actor arrived at the court at about 8.10am in a black Toyota Vellfire clad in a dark grey suit and a face mask, accompanied by a lawyer and a friend.
About 10 media practitioners from various agencies also gathered at the court grounds as early as 7.30 this morning to cover the 36-year-old actor’s case.
The media previously reported that controversy arose when the actor allegedly shared a clip depicting a ‘hot scene’ with female actress Siti Hariesa as a promotion for an upcoming drama series titled “Perempuan Itu” on Instagram.
The video contains mild sexual and suggestive content whereby Siti in a ‘french maid’ costume is seen seated on Zul Ariffin’s lap as she smears whipped cream on his bottom lip. A shirtless Zul is also seen carrying Siti out of frame towards the end of the clip.
The act of uploading the ‘teaser’ of the drama had drawn criticism from the public, as well as the attention of the Minister of Communications and Multimedia, Tan Sri Annuar Musa, who said that “this kind of scene cannot be aired in the fasting month or any other month.”
The show, which was initially set to air sometime in April, was postponed following all the flak.
