WATCH: Perak Assemblyman Holds Up Raw Chicken During Debate To Protest Rising Cost Of Goods
Who says politics is boring? Yesterday, the Perak state assembly witnessed one of the most memorable moments of the year, in an act more associated with theatre or television than a debate floor.
Hulu Kinta assemblyman Muhamad Arafat Varisai Mahamad was mid-speech – highlighting the rising cost of goods – when he pulled out a raw chicken to drive his point home, causing a commotion in the hall.
Addressing PAS-Gunung Semanggol representative Razman Zakaria – who is the state Plantations, Agriculture and Food Industries exco – the PKR lawmaker said that he had not done enough to control the rising cost of goods.
“Since Friday until today, the answers from the state exco has not been convincing, and there are no concrete plans to resolve the issue.
“So today I brought a ‘special gift’ purchased from Gunung Semanggol, together with the receipt, which cost more than RM10 per kg,” he was quoted as saying by Malay Mail.
“I want to give this chicken as a present as no action has been taken by the exco (Razman). I want to ask, has a dialogue been held with retailers, entrepreneurs, and wholesalers to see where the real problem of this price increase is?” he said during the debate on the Perak 2022 Budget at Bangunan Perak Darul Ridzuan, as reported by NST.
“What is the role of the exco, has there been any action taken? I myself am working like an exco, for example, calling wholesalers, retailers, and the people to get information on where the mistakes and solutions are.”
