Molek FM“Once Upon A Password”: Local Artist Daniel Mok Creates A Comic That Hits You Right In The Childhood

How old were you when you created your first email address? I think I can speak for most of us when I say that I’d rather not reveal what my first ever email address was named.
Hint: I was, and still am, a huge fan of Avatar: The Last Airbender.
Instagram user @themokumentary created a heartwarming comic that many of us, who have outgrown our embarrassing email addresses, might be able to relate to.

The artist, Daniel Mok, describes himself as an “accidental copywriter, occasional scriptwriter, and perpetual storyteller.” He first posted this comic in June.

JUICE spoke with Daniel about how this comic came about…
“One day, I was typing in my password and I turned on the ‘Show Password’ button. Seeing my password in its actual form (instead of asterisks) made me realise how weird and childish it actually looked.
“Then I started to wonder if other people used childish phrases for their own passwords. I did an IG poll, asking how many people were still using their original passwords. About 60+% said they did and I realised that we are now using these same passwords for so many different accounts.
“For many of us, they were one of the few things still unchanged since we first hopped onto the Internet 20, 20+ years back.”
A recent posting on Reddit picked it up again on the thread r/Malaysians, with many netizens being hit with nostalgia and memories of their childhood.
My personal favourite panel was the 6th, where the artist conveyed that no matter how old we are, we may never outgrow certain parts of our pasts.
“I’m one of those kids from the generation that lived before and after Internet. So I really remember how amazing it first felt to be able to sit in front of the computer, create a whole new persona and connect to everyone around the world,” said Daniel.
“..and yes, I took a long time to come up with my childish email address and password.”
I’m sure most of us can relate.
In the spirit of reminiscing old memories, many reddit users revealed their adolescent usernames and emails they still proudly use today.
