M’sian Model Dies During Liposuction Procedure by Unlicensed Beautician in Preparation for Her Wedding
On 17 October, a Malaysian model died after undergoing a liposuction procedure at an unlicensed beauty salon located in Sunway Velocity Mall, Cheras.
According to Sin Chew Daily and China Press, the 23-year-old Coco Siew Zhi Shing, was planning to get married to her boyfriend in South Africa next year.
To get ready for her wedding, she signed up for an RM2,500 package to do liposuction on her arms with a beauty salon that was deemed popular on the Internet. The deceased’s brother told the Chinese daily that Coco was accompanied by a friend to her appointment at 2.30pm on Saturday.
Upon arrival at the clinic, she received an anaesthetic injection. However, according to the friend who went with her, the surgeon became visibly flustered within half an hour of the operation. Sensing something went wrong, Coco’s friend immediately called an ambulance and rushed her to the hospital.
Unfortunately, she was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at 5pm.
After the horrible incident happened, Coco’s family immediately made a police report against the beauty salon and its practitioner.
The brother also went online to find out more about the beauty salon and reportedly discovered that two of their beauticians did not have an aesthetic medicine licence. He found out that the business was registered as a beauty product wholesaler by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and was obviously doing all her beauty and cosmetic procedures illegally.
After hearing about Coco’s death, the 23-year-old beauty practitioner showed up at the hospital where the family apprehended her which then prompted the police to take her statement.
“Under our repeated questioning, the person in charge of the beauty salon revealed that her salon did not have an aesthetic clinic license. The place was operating under an ordinary beauty salon license, and the aesthetic doctor, as she claimed she was, who performed the operation on my sister did not have a professional aesthetic medical license either,” he said.
Coco’s brother said that he hopes this incident will serve as a warning to all young women out there.
For now, the results of her post-mortem is not yet known and the police are currently investigating the unlicensed beauty salon. The beauty salon, on the other hand, had deleted all its social media pages and has yet to apologise or admit a mistake.
