Maya Karin Says Goodbye To Her Burger Bakar Business With A Heavy Heart
Malaysia’s OG Pontianak, Maya Karin is saying goodbye to her dreams of expanding her burger bakar business, which she started during the Movement Control Order (MCO).
Despite much reluctance, she announced that Burger Bakar Maya Karin stall’s last day of operations was on 1 August.
She told the Berita Harian that there were parties trying to take advantage of her efforts and the business’ popularity, but refused to share the details.
“I had high hopes to expand the business but whatever it is, we can only plan, God decides the rest,” the actress said.
“Who isn’t sad when something like this happens. Initially, I started the business for fun and didn’t expect it would go viral and for so many people to like it,” she told Berita Harian. She added that wherever she goes, people would talk about her burger bakar.
Maya started the burger business when a friend had asked to store his grill and kiosk at her home. She sold burgers priced at RM4 to RM20 during the MCO.
“It’s just that, what had affected me until I decided to shut done the business is something I’ll keep to myself. It’s normal for people to take advantage of something when they see good results,” she said.
Maya said she will not be involved with any burger brands, saying she doesn’t want any issues coming up from possible assumption, adding that it’s better to close down the business.
Her last burger bakar delivery was for the Maahad Tahfiz Lil Aytam orphanage located in Rawang.
Even though she’s sad so see it go away, Maya said she’s grateful the business was well-received by so many.
“From the bottom my heart, thank you for the supporting the burger bakar business. I really appreciate it,” she said.
