First Ever 24-Hour Book Store Opens in Malaysia

Think about book-reading culture today and you’ll probably conjure up images of families at Central Park having a quiet Sunday picnic, or salarymen stuffed in a subway train in Tokyo consuming manga, or even romantic movies where couples fall in love at the library… It’s one thing to say Malaysia wants to cultivate a reading habit among its citizens that would make other countries envious of our productivity, and it’s a completely different thing to actually do it. Luckily for us, BookXcess has just made the leap.

As reported by New Straits Times, your friendly affordable book store, BookXcess, just made history when it launched the first 24-hour book store in the country, and if you still haven’t figured it out yet, they’re also the brains behind the largest book fest, The Big Bad Wolf.

Located at the scenic Tamarind Square in Cyberjaya, the newly launched branch is believed to be the largest in the country, covering a massive area of 37,000 sq ft. The store also offers over 500,000 books on various topics from fiction, non-fiction, comic books and more.

And as always, with discount rates between 50 to 80 percent lower than the market price, this is why we love them.

Its chief product officer, Yujeen Chua, said with the opening of the outlet last Tuesday (May 29), they hope to attract people from all walks of life, especially university students in Cyberjaya, Putrajaya and nearby areas.

“The scenic landscape was chosen to provide a haven for readers to escape from the hustle bustle of the city and gain inspiration. Although located far from the Klang Valley area, the low prices are expected to attract book lovers from the Klang Valley, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Melaka,” he said during the launch.

Other than that, the book store also provides free WiFi and a cafe for customers to do work, read or relax.

Finally, we can now recreate those romantic, late-night dates in book stores, just like in the movies.
