Yoda Might Return in Star Wars Episode IX
This might be a good reason to rejoice, Star Wars fans. As reported by The New York Daily, there are plans to bring back Yoda in Episode IX according to a source familiar with the 9th movie in the franchise.
If all goes according to plan, Daisy Ridley’s Rey will join forces with the ghost Yoda in the upcoming movie.
“Yoda will again appear as a ghost as he acknowledges Rey’s success and growth as a Jedi. The scenes are due to be put together later this year,” an insider told the Daily News.
Episode IX is helmed by J.J. Abrams, who directed The Force Awakens. It’s important to note that the film is still in its early stages, so everything planned out right now isn’t necessarily set in stone. However, we think that the additional appearance by Grandmaster Yoda will pave way for more interesting, stand-alone Star Wars movies.
Last year, Lucasfilm and Disney announced plans for an Obi-Wan Kenobi spinoff. In an article by Hollywood Reporter confirming the news, there’s also a brief mention that projects centring around Yoda and Boba Fett are being considered as well.
In an interview by MovieWeb on the director’s cut of Little Shop of Horrors, Frank Oz, who plays the 900-year-old Master Jedi gave some hints on the possibility of a Yoda standalone film.
“Yeah, he is going to. He is going to. He’s going to be a chorus girl. He’s changing sex. He will become, he won’t kick that high, I think he’s a little too old for the extensions, but he’s going to do his best,” revealed a cryptic Oz.
We think it’d be interesting to see a Yoda standalone film (than an Obi-Wan Kenobi film), given that Yoda has lived for 900 years. There should be some pretty cool things he’s seen or experienced, which would make an interesting film. And who’s to say we won’t see a cameo by the Muppets? Okay, that’s asking for too much…
Production Star Wars Episode IX is set to begin in July.
