According to Harian Metro, a total of 23 individuals were charged and fined RM1,000 each after gathering at a house in Simpang Setia Jaya Guar Chempedak, Gurun for a Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house.

The district’s police chief, Superintendent Deputy Shahnaz Akhtar Haji said that yesterday at 8.30pm when the police were on patrol to ensure compliance of SOPs on festive home visits, they found a house in that area that was still celebrating Raya and having more than 20 guests.

Shahnaz continued by saying, “When the police arrived, 23 people were eating around the house. They were aged between 19 and 25 years old, and have been called to the district’s police headquarters for further action.”

When questioned, all of the guests admitted to having gathered for an open house by the 24-year old homeowner. The host, however, stated that his guests had brought plus-ones which made the turnout more than 20 people.

“For this reason, they were found to be in violation of ‘Rule 3 of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases 2020’ which allows the compound to be charged,” Shahnaz continued.

During this year’s fasting month, the government announced that visiting during Raya will only be allowed on the first day of celebration and is limited to immediate family members, with the gathering not exceeding 20 people in one day.
