124 M’sian DJs Celebrate National Day By Attempting To Set A New Record With A Non-Stop 11-Day Livestream
It seems that the pandemic is not a deterrent for avid club-goers to enjoy pulsing music and strobing lights. On the contrary, Malaysian DJs are making sure to bring the party straight to your doorstep by attempting an 11-day livestream that features up to 124 homegrown entertainers ranging from DJs to emcees.
This idea, if successful, will break the record and be featured in the Malaysia Book of Records for having the most number of DJs in a non-stop livestream. In an effort to ring in our Independence Day, the mastermind behind the event, veteran DJ Jay Subramaniam, believes this livestream will unite Malaysians regardless of their music preference.
It’s no secret that the pandemic has drastically affected artists across the globe and Malaysian talents are no exception. From beloved actors to indie darlings, the MCO has definitely tested the ability for artists to gain their usual income.
Playing on the #KitaJagaKita hashtag, TraxxFM’s G. Vimal is pioneering the #DJsJagaDJs in order to show solidarity towards his peers who have lost their jobs due to the pandemic.
The IndepenDance 2020 livestream has been unanimously supported by those in the industry as well as netizens on social media. By including DJs from all pockets of Malaysia such as Ipoh, Penang, Melaka as well as Sabah and Sarawak, the event will surely be a true depiction of the diversity of Malaysia and our love for music and dance.
Expect a marathon set running across a variety of genres from retro to trap, hip hop to soul, Latin pop to Afro Latin, R&B to neo-funk, and even Bollywood and old-school Tamil hits.
The event kicked off on August 21, 8pm and will continue until August 30, 10pm when the DJs will then countdown to the National Day festivities.
The party has already started and you can join in at Mixcloud Live.
