There are some nights that lean into nostalgia. And then there are nights that drag it out by the collar, throw it under strobe lights, and make it dance.

On 11 April, Thong Bowl is handing over the decks to Khairy Jamaluddin for a full-blown Y2K takeover. Think less polite throwback, more chaotic rewind. Flip phones, burned CDs, MSN-era drama, and the kind of 2000s hits that live permanently in your muscle memory whether you like it or not.

Billed as a DJ Cage takeover, the night runs from 7:30 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and promises a tightly packed set of 2000s essentials. Not the ironic kind either. The real stuff. The songs you pretend you forgot but will absolutely scream when they drop. It is equal parts club night and time capsule, with a side of tongue-in-cheek chaos.

The event is RSVP-only, which already gives it that slightly exclusive, blink-and-you-miss-it energy. Entry is free, but limited, so it is less about showing up and more about securing your spot before everyone else remembers how fun the 2000s actually were.

Free goodie bags, drinks, games, and even a live performance plus photo session with KJ himself. It is playful, a little unserious, and very aware of its own throwback aesthetic. Basically, it knows exactly what it is doing.

Thong Bowl has been quietly carving out its own lane in KL’s nightlife scene, and this feels like one of those nights that could tip into cult status if the energy lands right. A former politician stepping behind the decks to spin 2000s hits in a hyper-stylised setting? It should not work. Which is exactly why it probably will.
