The good folks over at The Bee sure know how to tap into the youth zeitgeist of today – their choice of acts and our music taste resonate. Just right after Delphic graced their stage on 1 May, they are bringing down 21st century folk duo Wye Oak a few days later.
As Wye Oak, duo Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack update folk in broad strokes of shoegazey guitars and subtle touches of electronics and noise, creating music that reflects this generation’s penchant for era appropriation. You’d only need to listen to latest record Civilian to get into the band’s musical amalgam, which is never distracting. Unless you’re the sort of obsessive-compulsive music fan who bother with labelling music too much. But even if you were, we wager the harmony of Jenn’s riveting vocals and elegant chords coupled with Andy’s key-driven instrumentation will make you forget about genre tropes.
