Upfront at The Bee continues their string of semi-niche international acts with the arrival Swedish band The Radio Dept late this month. Seemingly missing our shores by a stone’s throw – they’ve played in Singapore and Indonesia before – the dream pop trio is finally making their rounds here.

Fans of shoegazing lofi tunes have been clamouring for these guys ever since their acclaimed debut, Lesser Matters, which continued the sound of ethereal guitar fuzziness indebted to My Bloody Valentines’ intrinsic musical form. Sophomore Pet Grief went deeper into the subconscious and lowered the noise level considerable, because any louder it’d wake their dream pop spirit walk. With a loyal fanbase emerging, their latest release, Clinging to a Scheme, followed the structure left behind by its predecessor, exemplified best in the effortlessly catchy and upbeat singles, ‘Heaven’s on Fire’ and ‘Never Follow Suit’.
