Tom Krell aka How To Dress Well is r’n’b by way of sad white boy, which sounds rather insulting, but trust us when we say we really mean it in a more endearing way. Tom’s debut Love Remains was impressive, a fractured r’n’b debut that showcased fragile falsetto as somnolent as it is soulful. Like Frank Ocean and The Weeknd, How to Dress Well manages to appeal to even those who normally wouldn’t listen to the genre (their loss!). There’s a level of loss and loneliness that he pours out into his minimalist drum machine-aided beats — the reverbs are a part of his melancholy on sophomore Total Loss instead of just a neat effect.
