The first leg of the Heineken Thirst x JUICE Pre Party Series tour brought us to quaint little Ipoh for an unforgettable heart thumping night of madness. The venue of the event was Ipoh’s hottest Saturday nightspot, Sensation of Sound (S.O.S). Once you stepped into the club, you’d find it to be huge and equipped with insane lighting systems, a giant LED display, and bangin’ sound systems rivalling the big boys in KL like Zouk and Vertigo. Sensation of Sound, indeed.

The night started off with the new girl on the block, Yenn Lim, who kicked it off with some swanky tunes that got the crowd jiving and grooving. Known for her personal taste in house music, she showed her versatility and pleased the crowd with more EDM sounds that were a perfect start to the night, proving that this cute girl has got the stuff to get people on their feet for some swinging and dancing. Although the night started with a little rain, people still came flocking to the club, which showed that ain’t nothing going to stop the people of Ipoh from having a good Saturday night out.

Next up was Heineken veteran and Vertigo resident Phil K Lee, who brought the house down as the night went on. Despite the heavy rain, Ipoh clubbers kept on pouring into the club and the venue seemed to be packing up even before midnight! As the beers piled up, a sea of Asian flushes was pretty much taking over the green lit dancefloors. Dropping pumping tunes, the crowd raised their hands as the Found @ Thirst winner blasted the night away with some techno and progressive mixes that showed the people of Ipoh just what they’re missing out in KL.

The highlight of the night was indubitably JUICE’s fav duo, BATE, whose meteoric rise to EDM fame was as quick as their ability to get the crowd going. Dropping some roof-tearing mixes and throwback tunes like Nirvana, Ethan and Wai Hong pleasantly surprised Ipohreans who otherwise haven’t heard of them before. The club was at peak condition by this time – packed with our homies back in Ipoh and hipsters from KL – making it almost impossible for you to navigate through the place. We call that the BATE effect, slated to be the next Goldfish & Blink, the boys got the crowd singing along and dancing so passionately that they would really give the people of KL a run for their money. Proving that hard work, dedication and some luck is all you need, BATE was a perfect close to the first stop of the tour.

With the crowds’ bottles stacking up like it ain’t no thang, there was no sign of slowing down for this small town. The next two stops of the tour have a lot to live up to as this town, more stereotypically known for salted chicken, tou fu fa, and chicken rice, really killed it. Heck, in fact, let’s add crazy partygoers to that list of stereotypes.
