WATCH: Henry Golding Suits Up As Snake Eyes in Teaser Trailer for G.I. Joe Spin-Off Film
The mid-2000s G.I. Joe films with Channing Tatum and The Rock were not that great. They were at best, mediocre with famous actors doing some cool stuff. But out of all of that, Snake Eyes was the most memorable character, and he is getting a G.I. Joe spin-off starring Henry Golding.
Golding plays the titular role of the kick-ass ninja commando while Samara Weaving plays Scarlett, an original member of the G.I. Joe team who has a special relationship with Snake Eyes.
Snake Eyes will explore the origins of mysterious ninja and the teaser gives us a first look at the film’s tone and some cool action. This takes place before his oath to avenge his sensei, Hard Master’s death, so we can see Snake Eyes talk and his face (because who doesn’t want to look at Golding’s chiselled features?).
“I wanted to see something different, and I wanted it to look different, to feel different,” said Golding who added,
“To be able to launch a franchise like that, it was just too good to be true – and especially with a character like Snake Eyes about whom a lot of people don’t know too much. They know him as this insane operator that completes his missions and is an absolute weapon, but who’s the guy behind the mask and what’s his story?”
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventure told Entertainment Weekly that Snake Eyes will answer important questions about the character like his name, who he is, and where he comes from.
Directed by Robert Schwentke and written by Evan Spiliotopoulos, Snake Eyes hits theatres on 23 July 2021.
