USA Records Highest Number of Covid-19 Cases, Surpassing China & Italy
The US has emerged with the highest recorded cases of Covid-19 in the world, surpassing China and Italy, according to Reuters.
According to a tracker run by John Hopkins University, the US has 82,404 cases while the New York Times said there are 81,321 people are infected with the disease. In comparison, China has 81,285 cases with 3,292 deaths, while Italy has 80,589 cases with 8,215 deaths (the highest in the world).
France also reported a staggering number of 1696 deaths, including a 16-yearold girl who had died from the disease over the last 24 hour on Thursday – in the country’s highest daily toll.
At least 1,178 people have died of Covid-19 in the US. New York Mayor Bill de Blasio said the city alone recorded 23,112 cases with 365 deaths in just one day.
I’m asking grocery stores, pharmacies and other essential businesses across the city to consider reserving special senior hours.
I think all New Yorkers want to make sure our seniors are safe and get what they need.

With 330 million people, the US is the world’s third most populated country. American hospitals are overwhelmed with Covid-19 cases and 40% of Americans are already under lockdown to prevent further spread of the virus.
“This could have been stopped by implementing testing and surveillance much earlier – for example, when the first imported cases were identified,” said Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Columbia University in New York. “If these are cases we’ve confirmed, how many cases are we still missing?” she added.
While other countries have higher fatality rates, experts say the newly-infected and shortages of test kits show that America may see many more casualties.
We hope everyone is doing safe and in good health. Keep practising good hygiene and social distancing.
