AREAS
CREATIVE EXPLORATION
With the lush grassy and hilly fields of Malaysian Agro Exposition Park Serdang (MAEPS) as their new venue over the span of two days, Urbanscapes 2013 offers the type of festival experience that you’d hear of overseas. From Woodstock to Glastonbury Festival, all the epic tall tales of camping out at a festival might just become a possibility here… or at least an approximation of it (we don’t advise you guys to actually camp there). Naturally, this means a bigger space for the festival to play around with and thus a need for division of areas. As they put it themselves, it’s about creative exploration; be it music or arts.

The Commons
Make no mistake, despite the big music acts, Urbanscapes has always been a creative arts fest. But if that isn’t your thing, you might want to stick to The Commons where headlining acts like Franz Ferdinand and Tegan & Sara will be performing.

The Field
Bit of a common ground for enthusiasts of both music and arts, The Field offers a curation of dance and electronic music by The Deer Society (which includes our own flica) as well as lighter performance arts in the form of Time Out Comedy Club and TerryantTheCuz, to name afew.

The Woods
If there ever were woods you’d be willing to get lost in, it’d be UrbanscapesThe Woods. Involving participatory arts – workshops and installations – by Market of Experience and The Wires, this tree-lined hill is one for the imaginative. Also features a diverse local lineup that’s got synthpop band M.O.I.S.T performing alongside outsider YouTube musician The Venopian Solitude.

The End of the Road
The farthest reach of Urbanscapes’ festival grounds feature the Upfront Stage, which Denmark’s artrock band Efterklang and Oz indie rockers Last Dinosaurs will perform on. To top that off, arts and architecture collective ALLTHATISSOLID is curating sessions in a tent that looks like it could only be designed by an artistically-inclined architect.
