Right thoughts, right words, right action, right f*cking band to headline the festival. These great Scots were the archetypal indie rock band of the mid-noughties – before hipster was a dirty word uttered by every other hipster – who went on to set the template for the indie bands that came later. Take us out to the park, already.
Tegan & Sara
Duo and twin sister act Tegan & Sara makes the kind of infectious indie tune with slight pop sensibility that would get listeners to talking like a teen. No wonder then that they went full pop with seventh album Heartthrob. Most commercial record of their career or not, the album received acclaim all the same and proved that there is no such thing as bad pop, just bad artiste.
Two Door Cinema Club
There’s more to Ireland than just U2 when it comes to music. With the debut album Tourist History, Two Door Cinema Club was one of the first few rock bands to be signed by dance label Kitsuné Music – very sensible once you consider their dance punk revivalist sound.
Efterklang
JUICE’s personal favourite from 4AD’s roster (so much so we interviewed them twice in a year), Denmark’s Efterklang dabbled with post rock and glitchy sounds before opting for dreamy synths and folky vocals that seem set on a gloomy permafrost.
Last Dinosaurs
Hailing from Australia and relatively new, Last Dinosaurs only have a single album to their name. Yet their debut In a Million Years was oddly mature in its sound as if the band had been making indie pop influenced by world music – African, Caribbean, European – for years.
