Two Men Disguised as Police Officers ‘Kantoi’ After Threatening a Family
In a report by Harian Metro yesterday, two men disguised as police officers were arrested after trying to blackmail a family in Taman Sri Kluang. They had fake police badges to trick the family, claiming that the family owed RM450,000.
Kluang District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner, Mohd Abduh Ismail said that the two men visited the family and introduced themselves as Kuala Lumpur police officers while whipping out their badges, last Sunday. They even showed a picture of the elder son of the family as proof they were real cops–which may be an attempt to show they were ‘ordered’ to do surveillance on the family.
The suspects told the elder son of the family that he owed RM450,000 and asked him to resolve it but failed to show any related documents when asked to do so.
Mohd Abduh said the fake cops insisted on entering the family’s house, but were denied by them. They then drove off in a car that had a PDRM logo sticker attached.
The family immediately lodged a police report after the incident. Upon investigation, real police officers from Kluang took action and raided a hotel at Jalan Lambak at 2am. They detained two men aged 30 and 45. It turns out, one of the suspects had a criminal record and was wanted by the police.
Both suspects tested negative for drugs. However, the police did find fake police badges and even a Student Police Volunteer Corps (SUKSIS) card. The police also seized an iron baton, four mobile phones, a shoulder bag and a Mercedes Benz car.
“They are currently detained for four days to assist in the investigation of the extortion cases reported in this area and other areas too,” Mohd Abduh said.
The case is being investigated under Section 384 and Section 170 of the Penal Code and Section 6 of the Corrosive, Explosive and Hazardous Weapons Act 1958.
