For some, Earth Hour came and went without much impact. For those that still think Earth Hour was participated by posing w@nkers that took part just to hop on the bandwagon, think again. The Star reported yesterday the 550MW dip in power use during Earth Hour that was held nationwide at 8.30pm – 9.30pm on Saturday 28 March. According to the article here, Tenaga Nasional CEO Datuk Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh reported that that’s equivalent to 14 million 40-watt fluorescent lightbulbs. That’s a whole lotta lightbulbs!

Earth Hour is held first and foremost to create awareness about global warming. The fact that Malaysia alone saved 550MW of electricity? Well that’s just awesome. Therein lies the power of a single person – you. By minimising wastage, not just on electricity but water and other precious resources, a huge impact can be made collectively.
