This New Retro-Themed A&W In Petaling Jaya Will Bring You Back To The Groovy ’60s
Are you ready for a trip? Because A&W Malaysia is taking us back to the groovy days of the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s with its first retro-themed restaurant in Petaling Jaya.
The outlet, which is now open at Seventeen Mall in Section 17, encapsulates old school American diners with its bright colours, classic checkered floors, retro high-chairs and booths.
Of course, nothing screams retro more than a vintage jukebox.
With enough space to fit more than 80 customers, the restaurant also has a Private Zone which can seat up to 20 people for functions like birthday parties.
The new retro concept commemorates A&W’s journey in Malaysian fast-food history. Many don’t know this: when the first A&W in Malaysia opened back in 1963 at Jalan Tunku Abdul Rahman, it was the first time locals got to enjoy American-style burgers and fries.
While the first A&W outlet might be too old for our readers to remember, the iconic PJ drive-thru outlet located near Amcorp Mall is equally as historic with its five decades of operation. So when it was announced that the first drive-in outlet in PJ was closing down, Malaysians who grew up with fond memories of the restaurant couldn’t help but feel a bit sad. Some even had their birthday gatherings there for old times’ sake, even though they don’t quite qualify for the restaurant’s children’s birthday package.
Well, it’s always a good day when you pair a coney with a root beer float, and A&W is still the go-to place for that magnificent combo. Oh, be sure to put on your best ABBA outfit, because the place is very Instagram-able.
This is the fast-food chain’s 49th outlet in Malaysia. Another retro-themed outlet is also slated to open in Ipoh Parade soon.
