According to Berita Harian, a couple who owns Ayam Bismi Sdn Bhd in Alor Setar took the initiative to provide free food to help ease the burden of people affected by the outbreak of Covid-19.

‘Rumah Makan Percuma’ is run by Jaffri Ahmad and Mazlina Makaruddin. They provide free lunches to anyone regardless of race, religion and status. Jaffri stated that they have been wanting to open up a charity based restaurant for a long time but was delayed as they were busy with other businesses.

When MCO was implemented, Jaffri immediately made the idea come to life as they saw that many Malaysians were affected by the pandemic.

“When Covid-19 hit the country, many were struggling and I think this is the perfect time to do charity work… I only gave my team a week to start the programme and thankfully everything went well. The food is available for 200 people and they can take turns to pick up the food,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mazlina, who is also the executive director of Ayam Bismi Sdn Bhd, said that the restaurant operates from noon to 2pm every Monday to Saturday. They allocated RM300,000 for the project to start and stated that the menu consists of white rice, various types of broth for chicken and vegetables, and even drinks.

She said, “We will see how well it goes first. If it goes great, maybe we can add more pax for the restaurant”.
