How ‘The Gentleman’s Hour’ Gave Self-Care A Business Agenda

Step into Kingsmen Barbershop on any regular day and you’d expect the usual suspects.
The snip of scissors. The scent of expensive pomade. Maybe a man debating between a skin fade or something more “executive.”
But last Friday was anything but regular.
To celebrate the one-year anniversary of its flagship in Republik Damansara Heights, Kingsmen teamed up with networking platform Just After Work for the debut of The Gentleman’s Hour. The invite-only event brought together about 80 handpicked professionals, entrepreneurs, and lifestyle leaders. Think tech bros with tailored blazers, fragrance connoisseurs, and that one guy who owns seven colognes and still swears by “minimalism.”

First Impressions Were The Real Dress Code
On the surface, the night was about grooming. In reality, it was about the quiet authority of looking like you have your life together.
Kingsmen CEO Osama “Sam” Fakhoury led a grooming masterclass that went deeper than beard balm. According to him, grooming isn’t a luxury. It’s a language. If you don’t stand out from head to toe, you’re invisible. That landed hard with a room full of people who likely close deals over coffee and live on calendar invites.
Meanwhile, JAW co-founder Jude Ashvin backed the sentiment with the belief that confidence starts from the outside and travels in. If self-worth can be exfoliated into existence, this room was halfway to nirvana.

Jazz, Canapés, And Self-Care
The atmosphere was smooth without trying too hard. Live jazz floated through the air. A saxophonist and fusion DJ set the pace. Frangipaani, a Michelin 2025 select, fed us canapés that looked like they belonged in a museum and tasted like resignation letters waiting to be written.
Kingsmen also soft-launched their nail service for men. Yes, you read that right. Nail care, right there between the pomades and the straight razors. A few guests got express manicures on the spot, surrounded by leather chairs and soft lighting. It was weird. It was great. It just made sense.
Currently, nail services run on Sundays and Wednesdays, by appointment or walk-in. If that expands, expect a lot of sharply dressed fingers typing out investment decks in the near future.

Polished, But Not Pretentious
To cap the night, the newly introduced Gentleman Awards handed out gemstone prizes to three lucky attendees. Emerald. Ruby. Sapphire. All from Castiel Diamond. The rest of us didn’t leave empty-handed either. Everyone walked away with a sleek RM1,000 briefcase filled with products from event partners like Kahf, Golden Concept Malaysia, Lelas, Smile & Co. Dental Clinic, and more.
No awkward schmoozing. No cheap promo tote bags. Just well-groomed guests, good music, and conversations that didn’t feel forced.

All in all, this was a total rebrand of masculinity, a blueprint for how looking after yourself can also be a professional advantage. There were no soapbox speeches, and no buzzwords about hustle culture. Just clean cuts, clean hands, and people who understood that power dressing might start with a moisturiser.
If this was Just After Work’s first outing, they’ve already set the tone. Next time, they might need a bigger room!
