Following the tragic passing of veteran actor Song Young Kyu, the teams behind two ongoing dramas, The Winning Try and The Defects, have released official statements expressing their condolences.
SBS, the broadcaster of The Winning Try, shared:
“We are deeply saddened by this heartbreaking news. Our thoughts are with Song Young Kyu’s family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”
As for the status of the show, the production team confirmed that because The Winning Try was pre-produced, Song Young Kyu’s scenes will mostly remain unchanged. Minor edits are being made in the final episodes, but only in ways that won’t affect the overall story.
Meanwhile, the team behind ENA’s The Defects echoed the sentiments:
“We mourn the sudden loss of Song Young Kyu and pray for his peaceful rest.”
They also confirmed that the drama has already been fully edited and will air as planned without further changes.
In The Winning Try, Song played Kim Min Joong, a rival rugby coach opposite Yoon Kye Sang’s character. In The Defects, he portrayed Yoon Se Hoon, a morally bankrupt megachurch pastor.
Both productions have chosen to honour Song’s work by preserving his final performances on screen.
You can catch The Defects now on Tonton.
