Jaya Ram Season 2: Sutra Foundation’s Epic Odissi Show Returns to KL After Successful Global Tour
The Temple of Fine Arts, Brickfields will host a three-night performance of Jaya Ram, the largest Odissi production ever produced by the Sutra Foundation. Since its premiere, the show has garnered considerable attention and possesses a high talkability factor, with viewers praising the spectacular visuals and brilliant storytelling.
It features over 20 dancers of the highest calibre from the Sutra Dance Theatre and Sutra Dance Outreach Program, as well as live music performed by accomplished musicians who were flown in from India expressly for the performance.
The production, which was commissioned from Guru Gajendra Kumar Panda, a brilliant dance-maker from Odisha and Sutra’s partner for the past 40 years, is enormous in scale and a must-see for both dance enthusiasts and art aficionados.
According to Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, the Founder and Choreographer of Sutra Foundation, the decision to restage Jaya Ram was made with full knowledge of the production cost involved. He expressed gratitude to the Temple of Fine Arts and various other individuals and corporations for their support in bringing Season 2 of Jaya Ram back to the local stage. Datuk Ramli Ibrahim also described the restaging as an ultimate opportunity for Malaysians and tourists to witness and experience the visual spectacle and brilliant storytelling that is Jaya Ram, which is not just exclusive to dance enthusiasts but also fans of the art.
Following a five-night, sold-out performance at Pentas 1 KLPAC, Jaya Ram began a lucrative globe tour, appearing at events like the famous Konark Festival in Odisha in 2022 and the renowned Delhi International Dance Festival (DIAF) in December, among others.
It has earned several awards and critical acclaim, solidifying Sutra Foundation’s position as a major player in the dance and arts scenes around the world under the direction of Datuk Ramli Ibrahim, the maestro himself.
The forthcoming three-night performance in Kuala Lumpur and the upcoming one-night performance in Singapore on April 28, 2023, will be the final opportunities to witness Jaya Ram in its full splendour. Only audiences aged 8 and older are permitted to attend the 80-minute dance performance, which comprises a 15-minute interval.
Datuk Ramli Ibrahim highlights that the dancers involved in the production of Jaya Ram have returned with valuable experience, skills, and proficiency from performing at prestigious international dance festivals. He urges audiences not to miss this opportunity and to secure their tickets early to avoid any potential disappointment!
