Street Artist Ernest Zacharevic Barred From Entering Malaysia
In an article by The Star, Lithuanian mural artist Ernest Zacharevic is now barred from entering Malaysia. Famous for his murals in Penang such as the ever instagrammable Children on a Bicycle and Boy on a Bike, he received critical acclaim worldwide back in 2012 during George Town Festival where he created a series of mural street art.
Posted via his Instagram story, Zacharevic said that he was not allowed to enter Malaysia and that the stamp in his passport didn’t allow him to enter the country. He did not mention where in Malaysia that he was barred from and said that it was “…not by choice.:D”
Other than that, he hasn’t specified why or how long he will be disallowed from Malaysia.
“I’m in Singapore now… I know everyone is worried so just letting y’all know that I’m safe and sound, breathing fresh air of freedom in Singapore”
“I’ll be here till I figure out where I’m heading next. But for now I think I’m gonna stay away from Malaysia for a while…” he wrote recently.
A friend of Zacharevic and local art enthusiast, Tan Chor Whye said that the matter wasn’t a big issue and that it’s a normal immigration procedure for visitors. He told the public not to worry and that everything’s good when contacted by The Star.
Immigration officials couldn’t be reached when asked for a comment about the issue.
Zacharevic, 31 is engaged to Sheena Liam, 26, who was the Malaysian winner of Asia’s Next Top Model Cycle 2. He proposed her last July, via a huge signboard in Lithuania.
