Laneway will be returning next year with an eminent lineup of the critically-acclaimed — and Pitchfork and JUICE-approved — variety that consists of international, Singaporean, and even Malaysian acts! This time, the lineup is largely female-driven, which we are definitely not complaining about. There’s Lykke Li, whose sombre tone is as soulful and pained as it is danceable, then there are our October cover Goddesses BANKS and FKA twigs, and also of the same ilk but much more veteran; the abstract pop of one St. Vincent. Hotly touted British group Jungle will serve up their enrapturing grooves and the searing post punk lads of Leeds, Eagulls, will provide choons on the rock front while sibling duo Angus and Julia Stone are set to deliver good ol’ folk and Chet Faker’s brand of downbeat vocal-driven electronica will permeate the luscious meadow setting. With Courtney Barnett, Future Islands, Little Dragon, Mac DeMarco, Royal Blood, Pon, and Rustie completing the international lineup, this edition of St. Jerome’s Laneway Festival Singapore is more diverse than ever. For the Asian acts, locals Enterprise and Pastel Lite, both of whom were part of our 2012’s The Magnificent Seven feature, will be entertaining fest-goers with electronics-aided live music — dancepunk for the former and experimental pop for the latter. Singaporean .gif will enthral with their introspective eerie sensibilities, as will Hanging Up The Moon’s intimate lo-fi folk. We’ve never seen the festival this diverse before.

EDIT:  Sadly, Lykke Li will not be able to make it for all three legs of this year’s Laneway Fest due to health reasons. However, melodic dance extraordinaire Jon Hopkins will be stepping in with his own brand of majestic soundscapes and soaring aural composites in lieu of the mellow pop starlet. We can’t say that we’re disappointed to have an artiste of that calibre taking to the decks at Gardens By The Bay.
