‘Squid Game 3’ Final Trailer Hints at One Last Bloody Dance

Netflix has dropped the final trailer for Squid Game Season 3, giving us our most intense glimpse yet at the show’s concluding chapter.

If you thought Seasons 1 and 2 were brutal, this one looks like it’s going to peel back every last layer in excruciating fashion.

One final showdown

Season 3 picks up right after the chaos of Season 2, with the trailer wasting absolutely no time in throwing us back into the mental hellscape of Seong Gi-hun. We hear him mutter, “Why did you keep me alive? Why did you let me live?” This line alone sets the tone of the series.

He’s no longer just surviving, he’s out for blood. Or to be more specific, justice. Still haunted by his failed rebellion and the lives lost along the way, Gi-hun is now dead-set on ending the games for good. But like everything else in the Squid Game universe, it won’t be easy.

The trailer gives us brief flashes of what to expect. For instance, there’s a new “jump rope” game, which was teased as a post-credits scene back in Season 2. We can also expect more of those giant, nightmare-fuel dolls that have become synonymous with the Squid Game franchise.

This time, however, the games will be faster, messier, and much more unforgiving. There’s also a maze-like challenge that seems to force players into choosing sides: colours drawn at random, alliances formed and broken in seconds.

And then there’s the menacing Front Man. This season, the mask comes off both literally and figuratively. One of the trailer’s biggest moments has him facing Gi-hun directly, taunting him with the line: “Player 456, do you still have faith in people?”

It feels like a setup for what looks to be the final duel (ironically between two broken men who’ve seen the worst of humanity).

We also see small glimpses of the Front Man’s past, which probably indicates that we’ll find out about his origins, and how he became the architect of the games.

Returning to the chaos is Detective Hwang Jun-ho, who’s still chasing the truth about the island and his missing brother. But if you’ve seen Season 2, you can probably guess where his journey is headed.

With most of the core cast returning, this finale is built to hit hard. Season 3 was filmed back-to-back with Season 2, so you can expect fairly tight pacing. But at just under two minutes long, the final trailer for Squid Game Season 3 doesn’t spoil too much. Just enough to say everything it needs to.

Squid Game Season 3 hits Netflix on Friday, 27 June.
