After a two-year absence, SoundCircus Festival is returning with the kind of scale that makes it feel less like a comeback and more like a statement.
Taking over a four-acre space at MAEPS Serdang on 1 and 2 August, the festival will feature six stages and over 50 performers from Malaysia, Indonesia, and more, cementing itself once again as one of the country’s largest gatherings for alternative music and youth culture.
But beyond the sheer size of it all, what makes this year’s edition especially interesting is its emphasis on collaboration, legacy, and regional identity.
Rather than relying purely on headline acts, SoundCircus 2026 leans heavily into curated concepts and cross-generational performances.
One of the most anticipated sets, Takhta Ratu Nusantara, brings together Indonesian rock heavyweights Cokelat and Malaysian rock icon Ella for a rare joint performance that celebrates the shared musical lineage of the region.
That’s the sort of pairing that feels purpose-built for a festival like SoundCircus, where nostalgia, spectacle, and cultural exchange naturally collide.

The same spirit carries into Legends X Renegades, a crossover concept uniting Jemson and Def Gab C, blending artists from different eras of Malaysian rock into a single performance.
Meanwhile, Slatan will be marking their anniversary celebrations through Hari Slatan 0108 FM, adding another layer of community-driven celebration to the weekend.
What gives SoundCircus its character, however, is its willingness to stretch beyond the expected boundaries of a rock or alternative music festival. This year’s programme also incorporates elements of local folk tradition and performance culture through Dikir Kustom, a collaborative set involving radio personality Issey and The Clique.
By placing dikir barat within the context of custom and street culture, the festival continues to blur the lines between heritage and contemporary subculture in a way that feels distinctly Malaysian rather than manufactured for trend value.
Elsewhere, Power Pop Yeah Yeah will see father-and-son duo Couple and Adnan Othman sharing a stage together for the first time, while 30 Years of Asian Hardcore pays tribute to the regional hardcore movement and the scenes that helped sustain it across decades.

That sense of identity has always separated SoundCircus from more commercial festival formats.
Even at its largest, it still carries the atmosphere of something rooted in underground culture. Loud, restless, slightly unpredictable, but deeply communal.
Of course, SoundCircus exists as part of the much larger Art of Speed Malaysia 2026, which returns for its 15th edition at MAEPS Serdang across the same weekend.
Long regarded as Malaysia’s biggest celebration of custom culture and lifestyle, Art of Speed once again promises massive exhibitions, custom builds, collectors’ showcases, and community gatherings spread across hundreds of thousands of square feet.
This year’s edition also marks the return of Hari Raya Kustom, alongside appearances from internationally recognised names such as MOONEYES and Liberty Walk.
Taken together, Art of Speed and SoundCircus continue to represent something increasingly rare: a large-scale Malaysian festival that still feels genuinely connected to the communities it was built around.
