Hello Cruel World is the second LP from the Anticon alumnus Sole with the Skyrider Band. It is also the most successful recent project Sole has undertaken. Eschewing the sonic experimentation of before with a sound that is just as oft-kilter yet more grounded, the album is the kind of rap record you would expect from mainstream experimenters like Drake, filtered through the lenses of emo white boy rap. In fact, the album’s best song is the collaboration between Sole and the ever perplexing Lil B on ‘Bad Captain Swag’. It’s not the best alt rap joint, but as far as what the lacklustre new decade has to offer, Hello Cruel World is pretty alright.
