Second Fire Breaks Out At Wisma Jakel Building Only A Few Days After Their Shop Was Set Ablaze
Earlier last Sunday (1 Jan), a devastating fire broke out at the Section 7, Shah Alam branch of renowned local textile providers, Jakel.
The fire happened around 7am of that day resulting in over RM100mil of losses, but fortunately, it did not involve any casualties.
In what appears to be a string of bad luck for the area, yet another fire broke out at the Wisma Jakel building yesterday (3 Jan).
According to The Star, the Selangor Fire and Rescue Department responded to a distress call at 12:40am and dispatched 43 firemen who managed to control the fire from spreading by 1:45am.
Similar to the first fire, nobody was injured but a store room keeping curtains located on the third floor of the building did suffer some damages.
As for how the fire began, some netizens are speculating that it was the cause of arson while others have even went so far to accuse Jakel of committing insurance fraud.
The latter of claims was addressed by Jakel group managing director, Datuk Seri Mohamed Faroz Mohamed, who said that it wouldn’t have made sense to do so since the branch that caught on fire was the company’s second most profitable outlet.
Adding to this he explained how “[T]he (fire) insurance claim would not even match Jakel’s sales volume, especially during festivities and the year end”.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm, Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim (pictured above) has urged the public not to speculate on the cause of the fire while police continue to conduct further investigations.
“This will include (findings) if there was an act of arson or other criminal elements,” he said while adding that a heavy police presence will be stationed to monitor the area of the incident.
