It’s been nearly 13 years since Scary Movie 5 hit theatres across the globe.
The franchise is probably a permanent fixture in the minds of many people who grew to love its absurd spoofs of popular horror films. But more than a decade has gone by without anything new from the Wayans brothers… until the recent release of the trailer for Scary Movie 6.
Suddenly we’re all living in the early 2000s again.
So many new horror films to parody now

Right from the get-go, it’s pretty clear the franchise hasn’t aged one bit. The trailer for Scary Movie 6 opens with what initially looks like the now-iconic subway sequence from Scream 6, only this time the subway car is filled with more recent horror figures, like M3GAN.
The film proudly takes aim at prestige horror, with not-so-subtle nods at Weapons, Get Out, Sinners, Smile, Heart Eyes, and even the Wednesday series.

If the trailer is of any indication of how the movie will play out, we can expect the humour to lean into how self-serious the horror genre has become. And then, of course, the movie will proceed to take a giant dump on it all, in classic Scary Movie fashion.
But the biggest draw might be the return of the franchise’s original cast, including Anna Faris, Regina Hall, and Ghostface himself. More familiar faces we can expect to see include Lochlyn Monroe, Dave Sheridan, Jon Abrahams, Cheri Oteri, and Chris Elliott, who all pop up in the trailer.

There’s probably going to be a lot of nostalgic fan service at play here.
Damon Wayans Jr., Kim Wayans, and former Saturday Night Live cast member Heidi Gardner join as new characters in the franchise, hopefully adding more comedic edge.
Scary Movie 6 is set to premiere in theatres on 12 June 2026.
