Samsung is back with its exciting ‘Solve For Tomorrow’ (SFT) competition, giving Malaysian students a chance to make a real difference in their communities.

SFT 2024’s theme is “Start with Can,” and it’s all about empowering students aged 13 to 15 to solve local issues using Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM). The best part? You could win a share of up to RM80,000 in awesome tech gear and classroom supplies.

This year, Samsung Malaysia is teaming up with Universiti Malaya with the goal to equip young Malaysian innovators with the skills they’ll need to thrive in tomorrow’s workforce and help Malaysia reach its high-tech ambitions by 2030.

“At Samsung, we believe young minds can overcome their communities’ challenges through innovation, dedication, and passion. Samsung SFT is more than a competition; it serves as a catalyst, empowering all Malaysian youths to realise their capabilities and transform their ideas into tangible solutions that contribute to a better future,” said Dato’ Roh Jae Yeol, Director of Corporate Affairs at Samsung Malaysia.

“We have full faith that these young minds can change the world. As educators, we are responsible for preparing them to navigate the digital frontier and make positive changes,” added Ir. Dr. Mas Sahidayana Mohktar, Director of Universiti Malaya’s STEM Centre.

Here’s how it works

First, you’ll need to gather your team of three. Only students aged 13-15 from Form 1-3 in Malaysia are eligible to join. All participating teams must also have a teacher as their mentor.

Now here’s the nitty gritty: Come up with a solution to a real-world problem using STEM principles, write an 800-word proposal, and submit it for a chance to be one of the top 10 teams who will move on to the next round. If you make it, you’ll get to work with mentors to refine your ideas and even develop prototypes!

The competition wraps up in December 2024, with winners being announced after a pitching session. The prizes are seriously cool—Samsung products worth up to RM28,000 for first place, and more for the runners-up.

Think you’ve got what it takes?
