Rian Johnson Wows Audience With Debut of Mystery Series ‘POKER FACE’, Receives 100% on Rotten Tomatoes
If you absolutely loved Knives Out and Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, then you should definitely give Rian Johnson’s new show a go.
Yesterday, Johnson’s latest mystery series Poker Face debuted and received an astounding ranking of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes (See the rating for yourself here!). Four episodes were released at once, with six more episodes to be released weekly.
Poker Face is NBC Peacock’s newest show, starring Natasha Lyonne as Charlie Cale.
Cale is a casino employee in Las Vegas who has a hidden special ability of being able to look at anyone and immediately tell if they’re lying.
When Cale’s casino manager tells her to make use of her one-of-a-kind skill, Cale ultimately finds herself on the road, taking her talent from city to city, where she invariably uses it to assist in solving a murder.
The mystery series follows Johnson’s signature narrative style of a modernised “whodunnit” detective story with twists and turns.
Each episode begins with a fairly drawn-out prologue that informs the audience of both the crime’s details and its perpetrator. The audience is already one step ahead of Cale as she struggles to understand what happened and puts the pieces together.
Johnson pulled incredible actors such as Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Benjamin Bratt, Stephanie Hsu, David Castañeda, Charles Melton, Dascha Polanco, Judith Light, Jameela Jamil, and more to star in the show alongside Lyonne.
Each episode is an hour long, with the remaining episodes to be released every Thursday.
