Get your popcorn ready, folks! Netflix announced that they will be releasing more than 23 original films on their platform this year. 

From action blockbusters, romantic comedies, comedy, fantasy, science fiction, crime thrillers to new entries in beloved franchises – there is something for every film fanatic.

In fact, they even released a trailer which you can watch below. 

Here are some of the movies that you can catch on Netflix this year.

JUNG_E

The sci-fi thriller is centred around a war heroine, Major Jung-e, as her brain data is used to make an AI robot, where the robot is used to conduct war simulation. During the simulation, Jung-e’s daughter, Seo-hyun, the robot research team leader, discovers her mother’s secrets.

The film will be released on the 20th of January.

You People

The comedy film is about Ezra Cohen and Amira Mohammed falling in love, but their relationship is tested by their respective families. Both Ezra and Amira’s parents inject themselves into their lives mercilessly. 

The film starring Jonah Hill, Lauren London, and Eddie Murphy will premier on January 27.

Bill Russell: Legend

Bill Russell: Legend is a documentary on the life and impact of NBA legend and civil rights leader, Bill Russell. The movie has access to Russell’s extensive personal archives as well as rare conversations with him before his death in 2022.

The documentary featuring well-known basketball stars such as Steph Curry, Chris Paul, and Magic Johnson will be released on February 8.

Your Place or Mine

Starring Reese Witherspoon and Ashton Kutcher, the rom-com is about the two best friends who swap houses to live for a week where they discover what they think they want might not be what they really need.

The film will premiere on February 10, just in time for Valentine’s Day.

Murder Mystery 2

When their friend the Maharaja is abducted at his own extravagant wedding, Nick and Audrey Spitz—now full-time detectives working to launch their own private eye agency—find themselves at the centre of a worldwide kidnapping.

The action-comedy starring Jennifer Anniston and Adam Sandler is set to premiere on March 31.

Extraction 2

In Extraction 2, the follow-up to the wildly successful action movie, Extraction from Netflix, Chris Hemsworth reprises his role as Tyler Rake. Rake, the Australian black operations mercenary who barely made it through the events of the first film, is back and assigned a new, deadly mission: Rescuing the wounded family of a brutal Georgian mobster from the prison where they are being kept.

The film will be out on June 16.

Damsel

A devout damsel, played by Millie Bobby Brown, consents to wed a dashing prince only to learn that the royal family is using her as a sacrifice to settle an old debt. She is trapped in a cave with a fire-breathing dragon and must use her wits and determination to live.

Originally based on a novel of the same title, the film will be released on October 13.
