Chinese New Year brings with it a time of renewal and reunion.

If you’ve spent a good amount of time at any Chinese New Year gathering, you’ll definitely be familiar with the distinct clacking of slick Mahjong tiles. It’s a game played by people of all ages, and takes some real skill to get right.

Local watchmaker Revelot has teamed up with Malaysian fashion house Behati to create the Hexmariner Mahjong Edition, which positions itself as a unique timepiece that pays tribute to the beloved game.

Fused with tradition and culture

This limited-edition Hexmariner is an elegant, yet eye-catching homage to Mahjong. Its distinct colors blend seamlessly with each other, creating a truly unique look that honours tradition while also looking ahead.

Featuring a subtle bone-white enamel dial, the Hexmariner Mahjong Edition adds tasteful pops of colour with bright blue hands and lumed (glowing) Chinese calligraphy numerics.

The numbers ‘8’ (發) and ’12’ (中) are highlighted in green and red respectively. They’re a play on words with ‘8’ symbolising wealth and the ’12’ symbolising noon. At the 6 o’clock position, you’ll find an elegant green date window (白板).

When combined, these three numerics form the dragon tile set.

Rounding it all off (literally) is a jade green unidirectional ceramic bezel. It’s neatly etched with the four types of wind: 東 (East), 南 (South), 西 (West), and 北 (North), representing a winning combination in the game. You’ll be happy to know that they also glow in the dark.

Business on the back

The exhibition caseback, made of sapphire glass, has the red joker (飛) printed on it for luck. Powering the watch is a Seiko NH35 automatic movement, a proven workhorse. The watch is also water resistant up to 200 metres.

It comes with a 316L bracelet and a milled clasp with five-hole micro-adjustability. But you can easily customise the overall look of the timepiece with different bracelets and straps thanks to quick-release springbars.

Launching on 18 January 2024
