The SuperStation One Is a 21st-Century Love Letter to Retro Games of the ’90s
If you’re a child of the ’90s—people born in the ’80s and early ’90s (sorry, Gen-Z)—you probably long for simpler days. Even more so now, with the turmoil today’s world is going through.
But fans of retro gaming can rejoice! Retro Remake has just dropped the SuperStation One. It’s a sleek, modern reinterpretation of the classic gaming consoles we all know and love, put together in one tiny package.
Bringing back the golden age of gaming
At first glance, the SuperStation One looks very similar to the PlayStation 1. It even has dedicated ports for the original PlayStation controllers and memory cards. But here’s where things get really cool: It’s not just a PlayStation clone, though you might be tempted to call it that.
The SuperStation One is packed with custom hardware that lets it behave like a bunch of your favourite classic consoles, including Atari 5200, NES, Sega Saturn, and, of course, the PlayStation. It’s basically an all-in-one time machine that satisfies your pangs of gaming nostalgia.
Right out of the box, the SuperStation One comes included with a 64GB Micro SD card for storing your games, three USB-A ports, an ethernet port, as well as an NFC reader that allows you to automatically load a specific game when you tap a card on it.
How do you power it up, you ask? Just plug a power source into its USB-C port.
Whether you’ve got a modern TV or a retro gaming setup, the SuperStation One has you covered there too. For those who prefer easy connections, you’ve got an HDMI port. If your taste skews toward an authentic, old-school vibe, you’ll be happy to see the VGA, composite, and component ports.
Plus, there’s a built-in 3.5mm audio jack and digital audio port for crisp sound.
But if all that still isn’t enough for you, Retro Remake has got bigger plans for the SuperStation One
The company is working on a ‘SuperDock’ accessory, which adds a slot-loading disc drive, extra storage space via an SSD bay, and four additional USB-A ports. Unfortunately, you can’t pre-order the SuperDock just yet.
You can, however, reserve it with a US$5 deposit when you pre-order the SuperStation One, which will cost you just US$179.99 (roughly RM787). That’s a steal, if you ask me.
