WATCH: OG Rapper Joe Flizzow is Now an English Teacher & You Can Learn From Him For Free!
One of the hardest aspects of learning a new language is speaking with clear and correct pronunciation. In a way, rap music is a preferred way to familiarize yourself with the phonetics of a language because it is so similar to spoken English. It’s how most of us Malaysians do it anyway!
Recently, Subang Jaya boss and rapper Joe Flizzow revealed that he will be venturing into taking on the role of an English teacher. Yes, it makes sense!
According to Berita Harian, Joe will be teaching students English in a series of videos on an app called ‘SOLS Edu’ by SOLS 24/7.
“It’s a course that is accessible to anyone and the most exciting thing that I’d like to share is that it’s completely free and has no hidden charges,” he explained at the launch of the app on 26 Oct.
When asked why Joe had chosen to teach English, the 42-year-old recalled that his father was not able to speak fluent English and even failed his SPM, but it was learning the language that helped him build a better life for his family.
“If I can help one person, 10 people or a million kids out there… I hope it would improve their chances and build a better life,” he said.
Joe also noted that the unique thing surrounding his programme is that he will be using Bahasa Malaysia to teach English. Though it was not his intention to call out any parties, he felt that teaching English by only using the language itself is not as effective.
“When I was approached by Teacher Raj, I was taken aback when I found out that the teaching methods in schools did not permit the English language to be taught in Bahasa Malaysia,” he said.
Teacher Raj Ridvan Singh is the founder of SOLs 24/7 and the app has been eight months in the making. The company has spent the past 10 years working on programmes that help support students in their education.
So if you’re thinking of improving your English with the OG, here’s your chance!
The app is available for download on its website and app stores across any device and consists of 52 free English lessons.
