Earlier this week, PlayStation revealed that a new PlayStation Showcase is set to take place sharing a new look at the future of PlayStation and the games coming from PlayStation Studios.

Some of the highlights from today’s presentation included first looks, upgrades, and sequels from Insomniac Games and more.

Here are my top favourites that were revealed during today’s PlayStation Showcase:

God of War: Ragnarok

Sony debuted a teaser trailer for God of War: Ragnarok showing series protagonist Kratos and his son, Atreus, setting off to stop the eponymous apocalypse from Norse mythology.

The new release picks up from the end of the last game and revolves around Kratos and Atreus’s hunt for answers on a way to stop the coming apocalypse that is Ragnarok.

The trailer showcased new enemies, abilities, and fighting moves that players will utilise in the game. Making an appearance were allies from the first game like the talking head Mimir. The trailer also teased an appearance by the Norse god of thunder, Thor.

Disclaimer: In case it wasn’t blatantly obvious; Yes, “BOY,” this author holds a personal bias with this game.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2

Sony also showed off a trailer for Spider-Man 2, revealing Venom as the game’s antagonist.

The trailer gave us a first look at Venom who was teased at the end of the first game. The video reveals a glimpse at some of the new abilities and suits that Peter and Miles will wear and the villains that they will have to face.

There was no gameplay shown off in the brief teaser trailer, which showcased both Spider-Men teaming up together to take on a variety of goons while a mysterious man voices his desire for a true challenge, a gauntlet that gets taken up by iconic Spider-Man villain Venom.

Unlike last year’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, which was a cross-generational release on both PS4 and PS5, Spider-Man 2 will be exclusive to the PS5.

A 2023 release date was shared for the former title; no further details were shared for the latter.

Marvel’s Wolverine

Paying homage to the MCU timeline, Marvel’s Wolverine has been announced. Insominac Games shows that they want to not only respect the DNA of the character, but also look for opportunities to make it feel fresh.

Marvel’s Wolverine does not have a release date. In a PlayStation Blog post about the game, Insomniac’s Head of Franchise Strategy & Studio Relations Ryan Schneider mentioned that it’s in “very early in development,” which makes sense when you consider that Miles Morales came out less than a year ago.

Currently, with Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 slated for 2023, and Marvel’s Wolverine definitely isn’t coming out before it. Don’t expect to play this game until 2024 or 2025 until Insomniac or PlayStation Studios say otherwise.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic

The legendary Star Wars roleplaying game Knights of the Old Republic is getting a PS5 remake.

Set thousands of years before the Star Wars films, Knights of the Old Republic (or KOTOR, as coined by fans) is considered one of the greatest Star Wars games ever made, pitting players against the villainous Darth Revan and his Sith Empire.

The original game was followed by a sequel and the long-running Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online game).

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake will be a console exclusive for the PlayStation 5 when it launches, although there’s no details yet on a release window.

The showcase also announced a bunch of other games to look forward to – Rainbow Six Extraction, upgrades on Grand Theft Auto V, and Marvel’s Guardian of the Galaxy, just to name a few.

I don’t nearly have the space to fit in all of the games, but check out Sony’s live stream for more details!
