Embracing Islamic art in his works, Hamburg based artist, Idris (@idrislights on Instagram) takes classic paintings that we know (or have seen somewhere on the internet) and reimagines them.

Idris takes paintings like Van Gogh’s ‘Starry Night’ or Da Vinci’s ‘Mona Lisa’, and using the intricacies of calligraphy art, pays homage while still rooted in his own style.

Rather than just writing words in Arabic, each word has a meaning to it. In his ‘Starry Night’ tribute, Idris gives a brief biography of Van Gogh including the place of his birth and so on.
