Orient Star’s New M34 Models Are a Meteor Shower in Steel

If you’ve been keeping an eye on Orient Star lately—the premium arm of the better-known Japanese brand Orient—you’ll know the brand’s been steadily carving a name for itself in the luxury mechanical space. Now, they’re shooting for the stars. Literally.

Orient Star’s latest drop comprises two new additions to the M34 F8 Date lineup from their Contemporary Collection, and they’re some of the most visually striking models yet.

One is a limited-edition black dial crafted using a world-first dial technology, while the other features a deep green dial that shimmers with galactic flair. Both pay tribute to the Perseids meteor shower, and both carry a blend of high design and high performance that Orient Star fans have come to expect.

A quick refresher for the uninitiated

Before we get into the nitty-gritty of the watches, here’s one thing you need to know. Orient Star is the more luxurious, refined sibling of Orient—think of it as the Lexus to Toyota.

While Orient is beloved for its affordable and reliable mechanical watches, Orient Star steps things up with hand-finished details, more complicated in-house movements, and a focus on high-end craftsmanship.

It’s still relatively under-the-radar in the Western market, which makes these pieces even more appealing to collectors and enthusiasts. But over here in Asia, the brand has been making plenty of moves.

Not just a couple of lookers

So what’s so special about these new models? Let’s start with the limited-edition black dial variant, otherwise known as the RE-BX0009B.

While it’s a real looker, it’s also a world-first. The dial uses a brand-new nanoparticle metal multilayering process, a technique borrowed from the electronics world and applied to watchmaking for the first time ever.

The result? A dial that captures the inky depth of space, lit up with silvery meteor streaks like you’re gazing up during peak Perseids. Only 160 pieces are available, so if you’re into rare watches, this one might be worth chasing.

The second model (RE-BX0006E) is a stunner in its own right. It features a green dial with a stamped pattern and shifting tones that change depending on how the light hits it—thanks to a clever multilayer optical film developed in-house.

The effect mimics how the sky dances with colour during a meteor shower, and honestly, it’s mesmerising.

Both dials were created at Orient Star’s Dial Studio in Nagano, Japan—a facility known for its meticulous handiwork. We’re talking mirror polishing, brushed finishing, and a level of detail you usually see on watches costing a lot more.

Inside, things are just as impressive. These watches run on Orient Star’s top-tier F8N64 movement. It’s automatic, features a silicon escape wheel for long-term accuracy, and comes with a 60-hour power reserve. There’s also a power reserve indicator (a signature Orient Star detail) sitting neatly at 12 o’clock.

Flip the watch over and you’ll get a peek at the decorated movement through the sapphire case-back, with Geneva stripes on the rotor catching the light just right.

With a 40mm stainless steel case, these watches hit a sweet spot in size—modern but not overbearing. The sapphire crystal is curved and treated with anti-reflective coating on both sides, so you’re getting clear legibility even under harsh light.

Add a solid stainless steel bracelet and 100 metres of water resistance, and you’ve got a watch that can handle day-to-day life while looking far from ordinary.

A great gateway to luxury timepieces

If you’re someone who’s always been curious about mechanical watches but found the high-end world a bit intimidating, the Orient Star M34 F8 Date is a great place to dip your toes.

These new models combine visual drama, cutting-edge tech, and the kind of craftsmanship that gets seasoned collectors talking.

Whether you’re drawn to the cosmic vibes of the black limited edition or the quietly bold green dial, there’s something here that goes beyond just telling time—it’s about wearing a little piece of the universe on your wrist.

Orient Star has not released official Malaysian pricing at the time of writing, but judging from similar models in the collection, expect to pay upwards of RM3,300, especially for the limited-edition black dial variant.
