In case you missed it, the political party led by Syed Saddiq, MUDA, has officially been registered after a 15-month-long legal battle.

MUDA has been making headlines these past few weeks for their arduous work in providing relief to flood victims and has been actively helping the community ever since it was established.

While good work is often repaid with good publicity, MUDA was recently slandered on social media through a tweet that accused the party for misusing crowdfunding money to buy alcohol.

Check out the tweet below:

As soon as the tweet started gaining traction, it became obvious that these photos were staged.

The deliberate mise-en-scene and staging of beer bottles and cigarettes alongside the bold printed-tees seemed far too unsubtle for it to be a caught-in-the-act gotcha! moment.

Coupled by the fact that drinking alcohol in and of itself violates no laws especially when those partaking are non-muslim, the intention of the original poster to incite backlash towards MUDA backfired spectacularly.

Instead, many netizens started trolling the original poster and expressed support towards MUDA.

Here are some of the best responses:

While most netizens were pointing out the fact that whoever staged this clearly had no idea how a drinking session even looked like – I mean c’mon, warm beers, the truly catastrophic pour, and barren Nescafe cans and obvious product placement? We can’t even call that a party, it’s more like a nightmare – the members of MUDA as well as other influential people took to Twitter to respond to the allegations.

Politics are laden with baseless allegations meant to defame rising political parties so this stunt comes at no surprise to anyone who’s familiar with Malaysian politics.

However, it is quite hilarious how an attempt at toppling MUDA and its followers could fail so miserably.

As of right now, no legal action has been taken towards the original poster but it looks like the comments from whipsmart netizens is punishment enough – at least for now.
