219 Investigation Files Opened & 5 M’sians Detained For Electoral Offences On Polling Day

In the midst of the political mess that is the aftermath of GE15 polling day, PDRM has reported the cases of 5 individuals who portrayed unlawful behaviour at the polling areas last Saturday. (November 19)

Local police opened 219 investigation files pertaining to these instances, four of which took place in Negeri Sembilan, and one in Selangor.

In a statement released yesterday, Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali, the head of operations for GE15 police, stated that the three suspects- two of whom were located in Seremban and one in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan- were detained in accordance with Section 8 of the Explosives Act of 1957.

Two males were detained in a Seremban incident after they lit firecrackers outside the Tuanku Mambau Club Public Hall around 7:45 p.m, while another individual was detained at Port Dickson in front of the District Administration Complex for a similar offence.

“For impeding public officials from executing their duties and being near the vote tallying zone at Seremban Town Hall, yet another male was apprehended in Seremban under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 26 (1) of the Election Offences Act 1954, ” read the statement, as reported by the Star.

Additionally, Hazani stated that a man was arrested in Selangor for generating chaos by “throwing down” a ballot box while voting at the SK Yam Lama polling site.

The man was detained in accordance with Sections 3 (1) of the Election Offenses Act of 1954 and 14 (A) of the Minor Offenses Act of 1955, however he did not do any notable damage to the ballot box at polling stream 3.

Hazani, who also serves as the director of the Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department, reported that from November 4 to November 19, 501 investigation documents connected to election-related offences were opened nationwide.
